In the late 1800s, a Catholic Priest in the south of France discovered a secret that made him a rich man until his death in 1917. For over sixty years, a hunt to discover the secret that Father François-Bérenger Saunière had uncovered to gain his wealth has attracted a worldwide audience.
Thousands of people flock to the tiny village of Rennes-le-Chateau every year to view the estate he built and be part of an exciting quest to discover the truth of this priest’s unexplained wealth. A village that in 2018 had only 91 residents. According to Elyse Rivin, a French tour guide who was interviewed on the travel podcast “Join us in France” on April 12, 2020, the mystery of Rennes-le-Chateau has produced over 800 books, articles and films on the subject.

Many have left the story and mystery of RLC for dead, but as you will see, I am not one of them. I am still intrigued and bear a strong belief that the true nature of the mystery of RLC has not been revealed in its full capacity.
Many researchers and RLC enthusiasts have come and gone, some were extremely passionate and knowledgeable, others were sightseers and many were just plain tricksters. I have my favourites. David Wood, Filip Coppens, Lynn Picknett, Clive Prince, Jean Luc-Robin, Jean Robin, Andrew Gough, Corjan de Raaf, Patrice Chaplin and Tracy Twyman.
Tracy, David, Filip and Jean-Luc have passed on all too soon. Their work will not be forgotten, may their souls rest in peace.

I am late to the game in adding my podcast to the 800 written works trying to solve the mystery of RLC. I know that and as I said, many have closed the door on this mystery satisfied that the priest Saunière was only selling masses, that he had rich benefactors, and that there is nothing really to see other than an alcohol fuelled life of a defrocked priest who knew some very interesting and influential characters in his life.
Between 2007 and 2009 Corjan de Raaf, Filip Coppens and Andrew Gough teamed up to record podcasts covering topics such as the holy grail, the knights templars, and many other subjects surrounding the mystery of RLC.
I have maintained a casual friendship with Andrew Gough, an expat American living in London whose website ‘Andrew Gough’s Arcadia’ uses the theory of Occam’s Razor when researching his many subjects. I quote here courtesy of the internet. “Occam’s razor also known as the 'law of parsimony' is a philosophical tool for 'shaving off' unlikely explanations. Essentially, when faced with competing explanations for the same phenomenon, the simplest explanation is likely the correct one.”

I had wondered many times when sharing my rather naïve insights with Andrew early on, if I would find myself under his razor of reason and given a slice or two. He never did. Andrew was consistently kind and supportive, and to his credit, still responds on Facebook messenger to my occasional texts and recently allowed me to use photos from his website for this podcast.
Their interviews with Kersey, Murphy, McGowan, Mosse, Scabies, and Henry Lincoln, the man who wrote and narrated the documentary that started my interest in the mystery of RLC, were insightful, and the questions asked of their guests came from their combined knowledge and enthusiasm on the subjects they were discussing.
A toast to Radio Renaissance, a great podcast when podcasts were barely on the horizon.
